Arkansas Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
In northeastern Arkansas expect a high of 65 with a low of 42 and partly cloudy skies with SSW winds at 15 to 25 mph. The high on Saturday is expected to be 72 with a low of 57 and sunny skies with SSE winds at 5 to 10 mph. Expect a high of 69 on Sunday with a low of 43 and scattered thunderstorms with SW winds at 15 to 25 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
CACHE RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE- COTTON PLANT, AR
Reported on 3-12 that they are still seeing ok numbers of young Snow geese around the area in pockets. Staff stated that they are starting to move north though. Staff finished by saying that they expect the geese that are still around to start moving out within the next week or so.
HOLLA BEND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – DARDANELLE, AR
Reported on 3-5 that they are seeing decent numbers of juvie Snow geese around the area yet. Staff stated that the younger birds don’t seem to be in a big rush to head north at this point.

Jeremy reported on 3-13 that they wrapped up their spring Snow goose hunting in Arkansas late last week. Jeremy stated that they still had decent hunting when they called it quits, but the majority of the birds had left the state.

Illinois Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Friday in southern Illinois expect a high of 61 with a low of 40 and partly cloudy skies with a SSW wind at 15 to 25 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 66 with a low of 47 and sunny skies with WNW winds at 5 to 10 mph. Expect a high of 64 on Sunday with a low of 39 and thunderstorms with SSW winds at 10 to 20 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
UNION COUNTY STATE WILDLIFE AREA – JONESBORO, ILLINOIS
Reported on 3-12 that the big pushes are now passed the area. Staff stated that they could still see a few small flocks pass through, but overall, the spring Snow goose migration has now passed the area.
HORSESHOE LAKE STATE REFUGE – MILLER CITY, ILLINOIS
Reported on 3-12 that they are pretty much wrapped up in seeing Snow geese this spring. Staff stated that they are still seeing a few small flocks but no real big numbers.
CARLYLE LAKE WILDLIFE REFUGE – VANDALIA, ILLINOIS
Reported on 3-5 that in the most recent survey that was conducted there were 13,000 Snow geese in the area. Staff stated that the migration has been moving on quite well this spring with both regular migration days and reverse migration days with the changes in weather.

Missouri Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
In northwestern Missouri expect a high of 62 with a low of 30 and partly cloudy skies with W winds at 20 to 30 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 65 with a low of 46 and cloudy skies and SSE winds at 10 to 20 mph. Expect a high of 63 on Sunday with a low of 37 and partly cloudy skies and NW winds at 20 to 30 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
SQUAW CREEK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – MOUND CITY, MO
Reported on 3-19 that in the most recent survey conducted on 3-18 there were 7,166 Snow geese on the refuge at the time of the count. Down from 878,170 in the previous survey. Staff stated that with the warmer temperatures birds are grouped up and headed north rapidly over the last week. Staff finished by saying that the birds are moving quickly now.
SWAN LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – CAINSVILLE, MO
Reported on 3-19 that they are nearing the end of the migration. Staff stated that they lost the majority of birds that were in the area over the last week. Staff finished by saying that they are still seeing some flocks coming from the south, but they are few and far between now.
GRAND PASS CONSERVATION AREA – MIAMI, MO
Reported on 3-19 that in their most recent count on the refuge there were 5,000 Snow geese on the refuge at the time of the count. Staff stated that there are roughly 10,000 around the area with many more moving through the area daily.

Larry reported on 3-13 that the birds are moving quickly to the north. Larry stated that they are only hunting in Nebraska right now and they don’t know how much longer.

Scott reported on 3-20 that they wrapped up their season last weekend. He stated that the migration was pretty much over last Friday with only a few flocks coming through since. Scott finished by saying that they had decent hunting but nothing that was really good this spring.

Nebraska Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
In central Nebraska expect a high of 60 with a low of 31 and partly cloudy skies with NW winds at 25 to 35 mph. On Saturday expect a high of 69 with a low of 38 and mostly cloudy skies and SSW winds at 20 to 30 mph. Expect a high of 61 on Sunday with a low of 36 and mostly sunny skies with NW winds at 20 to 30 mph.

Reported on 3-19 that they are nearing the end of the spring migration. Staff stated that they still have birds working in the area, but the big masses are now well north of them.
OGALLALA GAME FISH AND PARKS OFFICE – OGALLALA, NE
Reported on 3-19 that they are still seeing some Snow geese in the area, but the majority are now well to the north of the area. Staff stated that they are still seeing some flocks of young birds coming through the area.
NORFORK GAME FISH AND PARKS OFFICE – NORFORK, NE
Reported on 3-19 that they are all but wrapped up with the spring migration. Staff stated that overall it was a very consistent spring migration this year.

South Dakota Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Friday in East central South Dakota expect a high of 44 with a low of 22 and mostly cloudy skies with NNW winds at 15 to 25 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 57 with a low of 29 and cloudy skies with SSE winds at 15 to 25 mph. Expect a high of 42 on Sunday with a low of 24 and a 40% chance of snow showers with NW winds at 25 to 35 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
SAND LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – ABERDEEN, SD
Reported on 3-19 that they have really good numbers in the area. Staff stated that the main mass of the migration is just to the north of the area. Staff finished by saying that they expect there to be good numbers around for a few weeks yet.
HURON WETLAND DISTRICT – CENTRAL, SD
Staff reported on 3-19 that they still have a lot of birds in the area, but the main bulk of the migration is now well past the area. Staff stated that overall, it happened rather quickly in the area. Staff finished by saying that they expect to continue to see some flocks coming through for another couple of weeks, but not real big numbers.
MADISON COUNTRY WETLAND DISTRICT – SOUTH EAST, SD
Reported on 3-12 that they are loaded with Snow geese right now. Staff stated that early this week they saw huge flocks heading north. Staff finished by saying that they feel they only have about a week left of big numbers.

Nick reported on 3-13 that there was heavy migration mid-week to central and northern South Dakota. He stated that the birds were pushing hard and there was no snow to stop them. Nick finished by saying that he feels this weekend’s storm is going to push a lot of the birds back to the south though.

Trevor reported on 3-20 that hunting has stalled out slightly as the birds have become stale. He stated that there are really good numbers of snow geese across the entire state with the big mass being in southern North Dakota. Trevor finished by saying that the winter weather in Nebraska slowed the migration of the fun decoying flocks, but they expect next week to be a solid hunting week in the state!

North Dakota Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Friday in North central North Dakota expect a high of 23 and a low of 13 with mostly cloudy skies and N winds at 10 to 20 mph. Saturdays high is expected to be 41 with a low of 21 and partly cloudy skies with SE winds at 10 to 20 mph. Expect a high of 35 on Sunday with a low of 21 and mostly cloudy skies with NNW winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 40 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
TEWAUKON NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – CAYUGA, ND
Reported on 3-19 that the big flock has arrived. Staff stated that they figure that they have over 700,00 Snow geese in the area right now. Staff finished by saying that the migration stalled slightly but should pick back up late this weekend into early next week.
ARROWWOOD NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – PINGREE, ND
Reported on 3-19 that the migration is close. Staff stated that they have started to see some flocks around and the main mass of the lead edge is in the state. Staff stated that by the end of the weekend they expect to see big numbers.
LAKE ALICE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – DEVILS LAKE, ND
Reported on 3-19 that they have begun to see some early smaller flocks in the area. Staff stated that they are expecting one more freeze with a couple inches of snow but after that they figure it’ll be game on!

Eric reported on 3-20 that they saw a few small flocks last week but went back south due to some snow and low temps. He stated that he expects a little push on the 20th but figures they too will retreat over the weekend with more cold and snow expected. Eric finished by saying that he thinks they will start hunting next week at some point.

Canada Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Friday in southern Saskatchewan expect a high of 25 with a low of 16 and cloudy skies with ESE winds at 10 to 20 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 26 with a low of 19 and cloudy skies with NNE winds at 5 to 10 mph. Expect a high of 39 on Sunday with a low of 23 and partly cloudy skies with WSW winds at 10 to 15 mph.
On Friday in southern Manitoba expect a high of 15 a low of 7 and partly cloudy skies with N winds at 5 to 10 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 30 with a low of 21 and cloudy skies and SE winds at 5 to 10 mph. Expect a high of 33 on Sunday with a low of 19 and partly cloudy skies with NNW winds at 5 to 10 mph.
CANADIAN WILDLIFE SERVICE REPORTS
WEYBURN FIELD OFFICE – WEYBURN, SK
Reported on 3-19 that they haven’t seen any Snow geese make it across the border yet. Staff stated that they feel it will be a few more weeks until they see some due to the cold front and winter storms still coming through.
LAST MTN LAKE FIELD OFFICE – LAST MTN LAKE REGION
Reported on 3-19 that they haven’t seen any Snow geese in the area yet. Staff did say that they have heard reports of the lead edge making it close to North Dakota, so barring a big winter storm it will be a few weeks before they reach Canada.
BOISSEVAIN FIELD OFFICE – BOISSEVAIN, MANITOBA
Reported on 3-19 that they haven’t seen any migration yet. Staff stated that they are hearing some reports of Canada geese making into the area. Staff finished by saying it’ll be a couple of weeks before they start to see light geese crossing the border.

LOCATION: Weyburn Area, Saskatchewan

Dave reported on 3/20 that Weyburn had a couple of inches of snow over the past few days which will slow any Snow goose migration down. The mentioned that he has noticed a few Canada geese around Weyburn but nothing in significant numbers. Dave stated that for the past 3 years they have had significant snow storm every year about the second week of April which is incidentally exactly when the Snow geese typically show up. He finished by saying the weather is starting to change now with plus temperatures in the daytime and a bit milder but there has been no sign of Snow geese.
