Arkansas Spring Snow Goose Report
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Friday expect a high of 68 with a low of 45 and partly cloudy skies with south winds at 12 mph. Saturday’s high is expected to be 72 with increasing clouds and southwest winds at 15 mph. Expect a high of 66 on Sunday with scattered showers and northwest winds at 18 mph.
REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
CACHE RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE- COTTON PLANT, AR
Bird numbers have thinned significantly, with only scattered flocks using the refuge as a short-term stopover. Most activity is centered around remaining shallow water and moist-soil units, with birds entering late and leaving early. Local hunters are finding better success targeting feeding fields rather than roost-adjacent setups.
HOLLA BEND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – DARDANELLE, AR
Goose presence continues to decline significantly, with only light numbers observed trading through the Arkansas River corridor. Birds are not holding long and are showing strong northward intent with favorable winds. Field hunting opportunities remain, but success depends heavily on scouting fresh feeds daily.

REFUGE / WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA ACTIVITY
SQUAW CREEK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – MOUND CITY, MO
Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge
The most recent refuge survey on March 17 recorded 154,711 snow geese, confirming a notable decline from peak migration numbers seen in late February and early March. Birds are still utilizing the refuge as a primary overnight roost, but daytime feeding activity has become more spread out across northwest Missouri agricultural fields. Large flocks continue to cycle through, though turnover is increasing as waves of geese push north with favorable winds. Hunting success in the surrounding area now depends heavily on staying ahead of shifting feeds and targeting fresh arrivals rather than relying on consistent refuge-driven patterns.
SWAN LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE – CAINSVILLE, MO
Bird use remains consistent, with geese staging in surrounding ag fields and returning to refuge waters. Activity has been dynamic, with flocks arriving and departing daily. Hunters in the surrounding area are still finding success on fresh feeds, particularly with mobile setups.
GRAND PASS CONSERVATION AREA – MIAMI, MO
Moderate numbers of snow geese continue to utilize the area, though concentrations are less dense than earlier in the migration window. Birds are showing increased midday movement and shifting feeding locations frequently. Continued northward migration is evident with each passing day.
