Saskatchewan Moose Hunting

Lawrence Bay Lodge’s guided moose hunts take place during the peak of the rut period which is mid September. Our Saskatchewan moose hunting guides will be using the traditional birch bark moose call, calling the Bull Moose within range of the moose hunter. Calling in a bull moose during the peak of the rut is one of the most unique and exciting experiences in all of hunting. We hunt hard; hunters should be prepared to stay out overnight at a tent camp or one of our outpost cabins. Lawrence Bay Lodge only takes 12 moose hunters a year. Our Saskatchewan moose hunters are flown out to different hunting camps on smaller lakes and some hunters also stay on Reindeer Lake and depart in boats from the base camp. The moose hunters that stay on Reindeer Lake will also be going to different areas staying in cabins and tents.

A Typical Day

On arrival, we meet the moose hunters at our Lawrence Bay Airways floatplane base. We then fly them into Lawrence Bay Lodge. The remainder of the arrival day, all of the hunters meet and visit (kind of a camaraderie day) the other hunters, make sure that their rifles are sighted in after traveling, and (after a hot supper) we have a moose meeting where we introduce the hunters to their moose hunting guides, let the hunters know which camp they will be hunting at, and go over the hunting rules and regulations one more time. The next morning the moose hunters are flown to their separate spike camps and some of the hunters also stay on Reindeer Lake.

A typical day of Saskatchewan moose hunting is waking up early before sunrise and getting into position in an area where the guide has found moose sign and start calling for moose, many times you will also check an area that you and the guide were calling the previous night, as many times there will be a bull standing there in the morning. If unsuccessful, the guide and hunter will go to different areas that morning checking for moose sign and looking for moose. At mid-morning the guide and hunter will return to camp for breakfast, (some days may take a nap after breakfast), then will go out checking for moose sign again and setting up for an evening calling session. Once you are done calling moose into the evening, if you do not have a moose coming in, head back to camp, get to bed & get ready for another day of hunting the next day.

ALSO OFFERING: World Class Pike, Walleye & Lake Trout Fishing

We have great fishing for Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Walleye, and Arctic Grayling! The fishing at Lawrence Bay Lodge is nothing short of spectacular. Last season our guests caught an unbelievable 1,600 Northern Pike over 40”. Eighty percent of our guests caught fish from 18-35 lbs (40”- 53”). We also had a few over 35lbs (our biggest Northern Pike being 39 lbs last season). We also caught Lake Trout up to 35 lbs, Walleye up to 12.5 lbs (33”), and Arctic Grayling over 22”. All of the trophies are alive and well thanks to the guests that released those monsters. Guests eat fish everyday for shore lunch and can also take a few of the smaller fish home with them. We have managed our fishing area well the past 40 years through catch and release fishing for all trophies which has insured that the fishing is as good now as it was in 1971.

Lodging & Meals

We have a new Lodge that was completed in 2003 at Lawrence Bay Lodge and 9 guest cabins. All of the cabins are fully modern with hot and cold running water, electricity, and flush toilets. We can accommodate just about any size group as we have anywhere from 2-8 man cabins. Each group will get their own cabin(s) as we do not mix and match groups.

The meals at Lawrence Bay Lodge are exceptional, we have a chef and two other cooks assistants. Breakfasts at the Lodge are made to order every morning (Pancakes, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Hot and Cold Cereals etc.) and Supper is a 6 meal rotation which includes Ribs, Turkey, Chicken, Ham, Roast Beef, and Pork Chops as the main courses! Dinner is the famous shore lunch served out on the lake and prepared by your guide!

The fisherman staying at Lawrence Bay Lodge will eat all of their breakfast and supper meals in the main lodge every night. The hunters at Lawrence Bay Lodge will eat at the main lodge their first night in camp and then while hunting the meals will be prepared by your guide out at the hunting camps. The meals while hunting include pork chops, stews, hamburger, for supper meals and hot cereals, cold cereals, eggs, bacon, and sausage for the breakfast meals. Once a hunter has their moose they will be flown back to Lawrence Bay Lodge main camp, where you will stay at the Lodge and have the option to fish with the remaining days of your hunt!

About The Outfitter

Your hosts while at Lawrence Bay Lodge are Randy, Phil, and Mindy Engen whom are all avid hunters and fisherman. They are always at the Lodge and available to make sure that your needs are taken care of in order to ensure a quality trip. Randy Engen (father to Phil and Mindy) started Lawrence Bay Lodge in 1971 and is now entering his 50th season as the owner and operator. Randy grew up in North Dakota hunting and fishing his whole life, his passion led him to buy an old prospectors camp on Reindeer Lake in 1971. That is where he started Lawrence Bay Lodge, and grew Lawrence Bay Lodge to where it is today. Phil and Mindy have also grown up in North Dakota and spent every summer of their lives at Lawrence Bay Lodge. Phil and Mindy have a vast knowledge of hunting, fishing, and the outfitting industry in general that has helped Lawrence Bay Lodge prosper now and into the future!

Our Philosophy

Lawrence Bay Lodge is one of the most successful Fishing & Hunting Lodges in Canada! This kind of success is no accident; the Engen family has owned and operated Lawrence Bay Lodge for 50 years. We know all of the local families in the area and have hired and kept the best guides in the area.
THE KEY TO EXPERIENCING YOUR BEST HUNTING AND FISHING TRIP!!

We own two floatplanes which allow us access to remote lakes for fishing and hunting, along with being able to relocate hunters to assure success! Eighty percent of our hunters in the past 5 years have had the opportunity at a bull moose. In the last 5 years, some of the largest measured moose in Saskatchewan have been taken by our hunters.

On the fishing side, we initiated a catch & release policy in 1981, and have insured our fantastic fishing for the future. Lawrence Bay Lodge is located in the best fresh water fishing area in Canada. Our guides & equipment are first class, all cabins are fully modern, and our floatplanes give us access to remote areas!
